National Portrait Gallery – Glamour of the Gods exhibition
Last week I visited the National Portrait Gallery exhibition – Glamour of the Gods – a wonderful collection of photographs from Hollywood’s golden age.
These truly iconic photographs show Hollywood’s most glamorous stars at their best. Taken by some of the leading photographers of the day such as Clarence Sinclair Bull they give us an insight into a Hollywood whereby the stars were the royalty of the day. Only ever photographed looking their best these stars were given a make-up look by the studio which very often stayed with them throughout their entire career.
One interesting photo negative by my personal favourite – George Hurrell – shows early retouching on Joan Crawford dating from the 1930s.
Well worth a visit if you are in London the exhibition closes on the 23rd October.
This has inspired me for a future series of tutorials so watch this space……
