New brush – LY24B
Continuing with my slight obsession for eyeliner brushes I have added the brilliant Ultrafine liner LY24B to the range. This liner produces an extremely fine line – perfect for precision work and lining very close to the roots of the lashes. Ideal for those with small lids who want a liner but don’t want to close up the eyelid area. This brush is also great for painting in individual eyebrow hairs.

The second picture shows all our fine liner brushes for comparison.

Tutorials
For those new to this site here are a few clips of Louise’s previous tutorials.
Flicked eyeliner/ Red lips
The techniques I am probably asked most to demonstrate are how to get perfect red lips and how to do a perfect eyeline. In this tutorial I show how to do both. The key to successful eyeliner application – apart from a steady hand – is a precise brush. Make sure your eyeliner brush isn’t splayed out at the end or you will never achieve the perfect line. I find it works for me to do the line in one big sweep across the lid – be bold, be confident and just go for that sweep!
To achieve perfect red lips use a brush that you are comfortable with – I often reach for LY27 but equally LY26 or even LY09 work just as well. LY28 is a flat lip brush and many people prefer this shape but once you know which shape suits you make sure the brush isn’t splayed or you will never achieve the clean lines of a perfect lipstick application. I sometimes apply lip pencil before but quite often apply it without. A lip pencil can prevent the lipstick bleeding. Again my tip is to be bold when applying the colour, I find long sweeping strokes give a more successful end result.

3 Looks – Day/Evening/Vintage
The 1920s will be a strong influence this spring/summer with Art Deco shapes and flapper styles already showing up on editorial shoots. The tutorial shows how a basic day look can be quickly changed to a stronger evening look and finally, by changing the hair, into a look reminiscent of the 1920s era. The look is far less extreme than many actual 1920s looks and therefore more of a wearable option now.

Vintage Hollywood Glamour

In our latest video I have created a Vintage Hollywood look inspired by the photography of George Hurrell and his portraits of the most famous platinum blonde of the 1930s – Jean Harlow.
I was delighted to have make-up artist Jemima Chatfield as my model for this look and her natural blonde hair was perfect for this.
I have shown different options for the final look which can easily be worn now -for the final black and white shot I curled the hair into a bob to give a feel of the era.

1940s influence
A few weeks ago I visited an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery called Glamour of the Gods. The exhibition was of classic photographs of movie stars at their most glamorous and we have filmed some tutorials influenced by some of the looks from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
This tutorial is a look that I did on stage at IMATS 2011 in London this January and is reminiscent of Veronica Lake in the early 1940s. I have created make-ups that are wearable now and this is a classic red carpet look.
I hope you like it!

Harvey Nichols Bazaar Hot 100 event
Louise was invited to participate in the Harvey Nichols Hot 100 event held at the Knightsbridge store on the 27th September. The sell out event was a great success and Louise demonstrated the brushes which are sold in the Beyond Beauty department in all Harvey Nichols stores.

National Portrait Gallery – Glamour of the Gods exhibition
Last week I visited the National Portrait Gallery exhibition – Glamour of the Gods – a wonderful collection of photographs from Hollywood’s golden age.

These truly iconic photographs show Hollywood’s most glamorous stars at their best. Taken by some of the leading photographers of the day such as Clarence Sinclair Bull they give us an insight into a Hollywood whereby the stars were the royalty of the day. Only ever photographed looking their best these stars were given a make-up look by the studio which very often stayed with them throughout their entire career.
One interesting photo negative by my personal favourite – George Hurrell – shows early retouching on Joan Crawford dating from the 1930s.
Well worth a visit if you are in London the exhibition closes on the 23rd October.
This has inspired me for a future series of tutorials so watch this space……

Smokey Eyes
This tutorial shows a quick and easy classic smokey eyes look. I was inspired by my model Emilia’s hair style as it was reminiscent of a young Bardot so I created a very dark eye with a light base and pale pink lip. It is easy to adapt and can be worn as a softer look by leaving out the kohl liner and using more brown or taupe instead of black. On the final shot I have added lashes to intensify the look.
I hope you like it!

1960s influenced look
Looking back at the shows both in LFW and NYFW for Autumn Winter 2011 the 1960s influence was much in evidence on the catwalks and the look is prevalent in magazines and stores right now.
This tutorial takes inspiration from that period and is one of my favourite looks. Channelling 1960s models such as Patti Boyd and Penelope Tree the tutorial shows a classic 60s look with painted on lashes. This gives a doll like, glamorous effect on the eyes. One of my personal favourite looks from this era was worn by singer Julie Driscoll whose take on the look was creative and expertly applied.
The look on the eyes can be achieved with light and dark shadows and although simple needs to be done very precisely for it to work.
